Frequently asked questions about investing

Do Finwell advisors receive commissions if I bring my investments to Finwell?

No. We are a fee-only RIA, meaning we don't receive any kick-backs, commissions, referral fees or otherwise for managing your investments.

How do I pay for investment management?

Your AUM fee is deducted directly from the cash in your account on a predetermined basis. So there is no need for us to bill you by mail or invoice, making it much easier for you.

I'm using a robo advisor. Why do I need a human?

Robo advisors are highly impersonal and select your portfolio based on just a few questions. Finwell advisors take the time to understand your financial goals, your risk tolerance, and your relationship with money so we can recommend the portfolio that fits you best. Not to mention, robo portfolios are not always optimized highly; you get what you pay for.

What is a CFP®?

A CFP®, or CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™, is an advisor that has achieved the gold standard credential of financial planning. If your advisor is a CFP®, that means they have thousands of hours worth of experience, have completed a series of courses about financial planning, passed a rigorous exam, and is legally obligated to act in clients best interest.

I manage my own investments. Why do I need a professional?

Some people feel they can manage their own investments, and a few are pretty good at it. If you have a lot of extra time and are constantly able to research investments, manage your portfolio, and make changes as needed based on economic forecasts, then you probably can do it yourself! But if you don't have time to do all of the above tasks, or would rather have someone take on all of these tasks for you, then it could be worth working with a professional investment manager.
